I have been waiting for years for Brushless DC Motors to offer appropriate form factors and specs to use in a good "Swan Song" final machine base.
I want SILENCE when I facet.
These deliver from 2/3 to 1 Horsepower at a maximum speed of 3,000 RPM.
I built a prototype last year. I thpught it was too noisy for me because the power supply had a tiny cooling fan.
I gave that to my assistant and faceting student Dylan to use with his brass XS3.If you were at the Faceters Frolic you likely met him.

My final private unit is in the shop and in use. It now has ninety Hours on it.

DIRECT DRIVE BELTLESS. If you are one of those people who runs a lap at the speed of a clock second hand do not get these. They will not run below 100RPM because of impedance and inductive reactance. Stick with a belt reduction type.
USER COMMENTS:
1: "Insane low speed torque."
2: "Did my first stone on the whole set up today! Went amazing. Really am so happy I could almost cry. Turns out I'm a better faceter than I thought I was! Actually having a machine that does what I tell it too is worth its weight in gold.

That motor really does kick ass! I might even have to start wearing safety glasses when cutting, at least during roughing in larger stones! I'm honestly a little scared of the thing."

A long time ago, Zane at Polymetric was always a good sport and would sell his bases to XS23 owners. (Most machine manufacturers were insulted when asked..) He was charging $1,200 then. I'll sell these for $1,300 for reasons we all see at the supermarket.
I do not want a real business again. Been there, done that, and got old. This keeps me engaged and entertained. So I am not pushing. Lead times will be about two weeks. They are somewhat labor intensive.

Because of the business sale I cannot of course ever makes laps or polishing supplies again, and after (Counting all types) more than 20,000, who would want to?

Late to the party but this is awesome news! There is a dearth of faceting base options out there.

Now, time to check on the tariff madness and see if these will be hit here in Canada…

I don't know about tariffs but stoneworking equipment has always been duty-free.

I suppose it all depends on the current pissing contest and bitch snits.
